Trail Tales: Hiking Adventures for Young Explorers
One of our family's go-to activities at Morrow Mountain is hiking, and the Junior Hiking Program has added an extra layer of excitement for kids. This specialized program is tailored for young explorers, offering guided hikes that are not only educational but also filled with fun and discovery. Led by enthusiastic park rangers, these hikes take the kids on a journey through the park's diverse ecosystems, teaching them about local flora and fauna along the way. It's a fantastic way for children to not only experience the thrill of hiking but also gain a deeper understanding of the natural world. But don't take my word for it. Experience it yourself at the next Junior Hike, slated for Feb. 3. 

This year, the State Park Service is focusing its programming on "The Year of the Bear: Dare to Care." The Junior Hiking Program is incorporating this theme, providing kids with a unique opportunity to learn about the fascinating world of bears. Park rangers share insights into bear habitats, behaviors, and conservation efforts, making each hike an adventure filled with bear-inspired knowledge. Completing a certain number of bear-themed hikes earns the young participants a special "Dare to Care" badge, symbolizing their commitment to wildlife awareness and conservation.

The Kron House Chronicles: A Step Back in Time
The Kron House, with its rich history and intriguing folklore, has become a highlight of our visits. The house and its yard are available to visit throughout the year, but only during special events are interior tours of the homestead given. The restored house and grounds allows the mind to journey back in time, unravelling the stories of the people who once called this place home. My kids are fascinated by the tales of early settlers, and exploring the Kron House provides a tangible link to the past, making history come alive in their young minds. 

Settlers Day Extravaganza
A favorite annual event for our family is Settlers Day at Morrow Mountain. The park comes alive with the spirit of yesteryear as we join in the festivities celebrating the heritage of the region. From traditional crafts and demonstrations to lively music and delicious local fare, Settlers Day is a vibrant celebration that transports us to a bygone era. It's a day where my kids get to experience history in a hands-on and immersive way.
