5 Easy Tips to Save on Your Electric Bill This Season

Let’s face it, we have all resorted to turning up the heat when our homes become drafty during the in-between time of winter and the warm days of spring. But if you’re thinking to yourself “it’s not a big deal”, that’s not exactly true. Here are some simple tips to help you save on next month’s electric bill.

Layering up

Instead of turning up the temperature, try the easiest way to save some money on that monthly bill: bundle up! Whether you opt for cozy socks or a sweater (or maybe both), either option will keep you warm while keeping the electric bill down.

Switch it up

Try a programmable thermostat. Why constantly get up to fight with your thermostat to find the perfect temperature for day and night? A programmable thermostat, such as A Google Nest, Honeywell Smart Thermostat or an Ecobee Smart Thermostat are all options available for this type of thermostat. A programmable thermostat allows you to set a desired temperature depending on the time of day. It’s easy to keep your house warm during the day, and a cooler temperature during the nighttime hours. Not mention the ease of use! With the energy that is saved, you won’t be sorry you made the switch.

Down and out

While you’re away, set your thermostat 7–10 degrees lower than the normal temperature. This easy tip can help you save up to ten percent on your monthly electric bill. This rule can be applied for long trips, and even while you’re away at work—every degree can save you cash.

Seal the deal

The Easiest way to lose heat is through where pipes enter and exit walls, floors, and ceilings. Make sure to seal off any crevasses where cold air could circulate through the house. The key to a warm home is having a tight seal on any open spots for the cold air to enter into your home.

Hot water watch

Turning down the water temperature is an easy way to save a chunk of change when trying to trim your electric bill. The average temperature for a water heater is 120 degrees. Play with the temperature to see what works best. There’s no need to scald yourself on the water every time the faucet is turned on. Save yourself the pain and money.
